Miscellaneous Sets

There have been a number of official card sets, with sketch cards, released by Marvel that have little to nothing to do with our infamous blind adventurer, Daredevil. And yet some of the sketch card artists still feel compelled to include some sketch cards of our swashbuckling barrister. Rather than give a complete page to each of these sets, I'm collecting them all on this page for easier browsing (for you) and easier updating (for me). Included below you will find sections for sets devoted to The Women of Marvel, The Fantastic Four, and Iron Man.

Fantastic Four Archives (2008)
(19 cards in gallery so far)

Once again, Marvel shows the philosophy "if 1 or 2 of something is good, dozens must be better!" So, hot on the heels of multiple Marvel Masterpieces card sets (complete with sketch cards), the Complete Avengers card set, and The Women of Marvel Card Set (all with sketch cards), we now have "The Fantastic Four Archives" celebrating Fantastic Four issues #1 through #561. It's interesting that some DD sketch cards show up in a Fantastic Four card set. Daredevil has on occasion interacted with the Fantastic Four. In fact, he has been their legal counsel on a number of occasions. But he's definitely not a regular or recurring Fantastic Four character.

As stated above, the Fantastic Four Archives celebrates issues #1 through #561. The set also includes Artist Proof Cards, however, unlike the Masterpieces sets where the Artist Proof cards seem to be normal sized cards, these cards seem to be "uncut" card size. Can't say this for sure, just going off the artist proof cards that I have or have seen so far from those different sets. The official Rittenhouse Archives site for this set can be found here.

In addition to the "regular" unique and individual hand drawn and colored sketch cards, there were also some additional special sketch cards:

  • "Black and White sketch cards". Inserted in addition to the regular sketch cards. The official Rittenhouse site makes it appear as if these are rarer than the colored sketchagraphs.
  • Hand-painted with oils cards by Bard (bonus for every 4 cases)
  • Sketch cards by Nar (bonus for every 10 cases)
  • Many previous sketch card artists have returned for this set as well as some newcomers. Next to the names below, I've also included the reported numbers (from the Rittenhouse site or some of the collecting groups) of sketch cards done by that artist.

    Iron Man 2 (2010)
(9 cards in gallery so far)

The only explanation I can come up with for DD appearing on any sketch cards in this set is that some artists must really enjoy drawing DD. Daredevil has never interacted much with the Avengers or Iron Man throughout Marvel's history, and I can count on one hand the number of times DD has interacted with Tony Stark individually. In fact, it's even stranger that DD would appear in this set as this set doesn't celebrate Iron Man so much as it commemorates the Iron Man 2 movie -- which Daredevil has absolutely no association with whatsoever.

The set features a 75 card base set with images from the movie. In addition, the set includes autograph cards, cards containing embedded pieces of costumes and memorabilia, sketch cards, and special subsets including foil and embossed cards highlighting Iron Man’s armor, classic comic covers, Die-cut actors gallery, and behind the scenes footage.

Many previous sketch card artists have returned for this set as well as some newcomers. Next to the names below, I've also included the reported numbers of sketch cards done by that artist if available.
