Elektra goes to Columbia University where we also get introduced to her roommate Phoebe McAllister and a friend, Mel. A rich thug nicknamed "Trey" gives Mel a bad time, so Elektra teaches him a lesson. Also, Matt and Elektra meet for the first time and hit it off really well. |

Daredevil #1/2 (Sep) 1999, 22 pgs., $3.00 "The Devil Discussed" (pgs.1-17) Smith, JG Jones(1,6,13);Dillon(3);Mack(5);Palmiotti/Nowlan(7); Romita/Palmiotti(9);J.Lee(11);Conner(15);Cassaday(16-17), lettering? (cover: Quesada, Palmiotti) The Kingpin tells the story of Daredevil to Mysterio (Mysterio alluded to this meeting in Daredevil #7 (v.2)). This is sort of a "pinup/splash" style book by various artists with the story told on opposing pages by Kevin Smith. Backup features: "Daredevil Sketchbook" (pgs.19-22) Sketches & comments by Joe Quesada "Daredevil Scrapbook" (p.23) Photos (& captions) of Quesada, Palmiotti, & Smith note: This was a special mailaway offer only available through Wizard #96. Retailers also received some copies depending on how many copies of Wizard they sold. |
Daredevil vs. Vapora #1 1993, 16 pgs., $1.25 "A Season for Tears" Newell, Harris, Hudson, Parker Educational booklet sponsored by Gas Appliance Manufacturers Assoc. to teach about dangers of gasoline & gas fumes; according to Overstreet, an "engineering show giveaway". You can still obtain free copies of this comic by going to the GAMA website. Look under the headings "Consumer Information" and then "Free information to help families...". They can also be purchased for schools and organizations for $10.00 for lots of 50. Interestingly, in 2002 or 2003, Marvel decided to offer a "nostalgic" limited edition of this book (understand that it IS still available through GAMA!) with a special sketch on the back for only $24.99. Even more interesting is the fact that the sketch is by the inker, not the original penciller, even though he's being billed as the "artist on the issue". As there isn't any difference between the ltd. edition & the regular issue other than the sketch, I can't consider this a separate or alternate issue (like the v.2 #1 sketch covers which were designed differently). |
Marvel Comics: Daredevil #1 Jul 2000, 22 pgs., $2.95 "Angel" Isabella, Newell, Newell, Levine (cover: Newell) This is an "intra-universe" Marvel book - that is to say the "Daredevil" book that folks in the Marvel Universe read when they pick up a comic book. Jimmy Fyre allows the demon Cleombrontos to reside within him a la Ghost Rider. When the demon separates from him, he becomes Dare-Devil, Guardian of the Night. He lives with the "Wise Boyz", a nod by Isabella to the Gleason "Little Wise Guys" and/or possibly Nocenti & Romita's "Fat Boys". Fyre and Dare-Devil take on the Warlord who kidnaps one of the Wise Boyz and his sister. |
Wizard Ace Edition: Daredevil #1 Apr 2003, 25 pgs., $13.95 "The Origin of Daredevil" (pgs.1-23) Lee, Everett, Everett, Rosen (acetate cover(s): Campbell) Twisted Toyfare Theater: "Daredevil Buys a Car" (pgs.24-25) (writers:) McCallum, Aclin, Oat/(cowriters:) Bricken, Patyk, Gutierrez Well...this is Marvel and Wizard at their finest: never have I seen a more overpriced gimmicky product than this one. I thought Marvel couldn't push the envelope any further, but I hadn't counted on help from the folks at Wizard. This is a true symbiosis: the tackiness & gimmickiness that Marvel and Wizard have occasionally reached separately is multiplied exponentially in this questionable product. The only really worthwhile addition to this "piece of work" is the 2 new pages of Twisted Toyfare Theater in the back, from which Daredevil has been conspicuously absent for years. I'm beginning to realize that was probably a good thing! While the cartoon was cute...6 writers for two pages??! Maybe that's where the $13.95 per issue is going?? This issue is one of the few times I'm really sad to admit that I'm a Daredevil completist. |
