When Marvel "relaunched" Daredevil with issue #1 (Volume 2), they
comemorated the occasion (and our pocketbooks) with a number of alternate & limited
covers (see the issues section for more details). Amongst the other "special" covers
Marvel released was the Authentix Sketch Cover limited to only 300 copies.
What made these covers unique, in addition to their extremely limited run, was the empty box in
the middle of the front cover to be filled in with a sketch by Quesada & Palmiotti and
numbered as part of the run of 300. These issues typically ran in the range of $80 - $200 on ebay
(an online auction site), probably averaging a little over $120 each. A limited number of retailers
were able to purchase these copies at $30 each. Update (Feb 2003): since the time I originally
wrote this, the prices have gone way up. The regular ltd. editions (7500 copy run) are pulling hundreds
(yes, I said "hundreds") of dollars on ebay, especially if they've been CGC rated. A CGC rated cover WITH the
sketch is currently listed at over $800 and is still climbing in price.
Below is a small gallery of the sketches I've been able to put together from
images I've found online or that folks have been kind enough to send to me. If you have an Authentix
sketch cover & would like to have it included in the gallery, by all means
email me. At this time we have
36 of the 300 covers shown here. That's 12% of all the covers.
