Marvel Masterpieces '08 Sketch cards were included 1 per 36 packs (or 1 sketch card per box). Marvel Masterpieces '08 continued both the good and the bad from last year's reintroduction of the Marvel Masterpiece line. The good: Marvel continued having a *lot* of artists involved in drawing these sketch cards - meaning lots of variety for consumers and collectors! The bad: There are still a lot of shops and scalpers out there putting huge price tags on some of these cards. If the market supports these practices (supply and demand?), then so be it. But it does make it hard for kids or low end collectors to ever have a good shot at getting a special card when they all end up on ebay for outrageous prices. Marvel also continued the practice of the "Artist Proof Card". As with last year's Proof Cards, I think the idea here is to let the artists in on some of the income from these card sets by letting them sell a few cards of their own at whatever prices they can sell them for. As such, some of the proof cards are true pieces of art with a lot more time and effort put into them than the regular cards. Many of the artists from last year's sketch cards have returned this year. Next to the names below, I've also included the reported (from many sketch card web sites) numbers of sketch cards done by that artist.
