"HE AIN'T HEAVY... " |
| While they've occasionally mixed it up, and they have some definite differences in their philosophies and approach to crime-fighting and life in general, these two "loners" have developed a very close relationship with each other, and probably work together as well or better than any two other superheroes in the genre. What follows is a chronological list of the significant events in their lives which have helped to shape and define their relationship and interactions with each other. |
| Date | Title & Issue # | What happened... |
| Sep 1964 | Amaz. Spid. #16 | DD & Spidey meet (& battle) for the first time |
| Nov 1966 | Amaz. Spid. Ann.#3 | The Avengers seek DD's advice as to whether Spider-Man is a worthy Avenger candidate. While Spidey is known to be a loner, it's also known that DD & Spidey have worked together. DD gives Spidey the thumbs up. This shows both the special relationship DD & Spidey developed very early on and the respect the Avengers have for DD's opinion. |
| Jan 1985 | Spec. Spid. #110 | They reveal their secret identities to each other! In a further demonstration of trust, Matt spends the rest of the day in Peter's apartment discussing a broad range of issues, including how his unique super senses work. |
| Jun 1986 | Amaz. Spid. #277 | At his lowest point during the "Born Again" storyline, a confused and troubled Matt begs Peter to stay away from the Kingpin. Spider-Man sensing something is terribly wrong with Matt, demonstrates his support and friendship by storming in and confronting the Kingpin about DD's current misfortunes. |
| Apr 1987 | Amaz. Spider-Man #287 | Aunt May invites Matt to her house for lunch. Matt must have developed a strong sense of trust and friendship with the Parker household for this to have happened. |
| Jun-Jul 1992 | Daredevil #305-306 | Peter agrees to be bait as a favor to help Matt find someone who's been killing young men at singles bars even though it may put him in hot water with Mary Jane. |
| Mar 1994 | Daredevil #326 | Peter is one of few who attends Matt's funeral. When Mary Jane asked him who Matt was, Peter responds in a simple, yet affectionate manner. He said that Matt was a guy he occasionally "hung around" with |
| Dec 1994 | Amaz. Spider-Man #396 | A confused & troubled Spider-Man, during the "Back from the Edge" storyline, begs DD for his friendship and support. Spidey says they share a "kindred spirit". |
| Jul 1996 | Daredevil #354 | Nice light-hearted buddy issue. Spidey & DD hook up & discuss the new, complicated aspects of their secret identities. Over a chili dog, Spidey talks about clones & DD talks about costumes. |
| 1997 | Spider-Man/Kingpin: To The Death | After reading in the Daily Bugle about Spidey "turning bad", Matt immediately searches for Spidey to offer all the support he can give. Matt states: "Wherever Peter is -- he'll be hurt and lonely -- and he'll need a friend! And that's where Daredevil comes in!". |
| Dec 1997 | Amaz. Spider-Man #429 | Despite recovering from a gun shot wound, his right arm in a sling and needing rest, DD once again searches the city to find Spidey and offer moral support to his "old friend". |
