TOP TEN... TOUGHEST FOES

DD is often portrayed as not being very "powerful"; compared to heroes like Thor and the Hulk, I guess I'd have to agree. And while DD usually faces "regular" criminals or slightly lower powered villains when compared with some of the bad guys faced by those two powerhouses, DD has occasionally taken on some pretty powerful foes, including some that have given the Green Goliath and the God of Thunder a hard time. Below are listed my choices of the 10 most powerful foes DD has faced over the years:

10. After Dr. Strange was captured and incapacitated by Nightmare, Dweller
in Darkness, and D'spayre, Stephen Strange managed to get a psychic SOS
to DD. DD helped free Dr. Strange and defeat the Fear Lords. While the
Fear Lords are very powerful, DD did have the Sorcerer Supreme's help
after DD freed him. (Dr. Strange #40)

 9. In Daredevil #238, DD fights Sabretooth to a standstill, then talks his
way into the wild beast's head and saves a woman that Sabretooth had
kidnapped by convincing Sabretooth to leave. While DD does have incredible
fighting skills, probably more than any other Marvel superhero, he uses
his head more than his fists. (Daredevil #238)

 8. One of the few times I've seen DD use his fists and ask questions later,
DD with Karnak's help, decapitates a malfunctioning Ultron. It was sort
of tragic as Ultron was trying to improve itself to please Number Nine.
However, Ultron was getting more & more erratic, and DD was worried that
Ultron might snap and hurt Number Nine at any time. (Daredevil #276)

 7. While Daredevil has foiled the minions of HYDRA numerous times, he's
tangled with Baron Von Strucker a lot less often. In the Tree of
Knowledge storyline, after evading System Crash and then rescuing Capt.
America, DD and the Captain defeat Von Strucker's plans completely,
however the Baron does escape. (Daredevil #326-332)

 6. After DD bumps into Mephisto in a bar (Daredevil 266), and then he and
Spidey have a meeting with the newly created Blackheart (Daredevil 270),
DD ends up fighting against the machinations of both on Earth and
finally in Hell. While DD did win a "moral" victory against Mephisto,
he didn't really defeat Blackheart and/or Mephisto, so I can't rate
this very powerful foe any higher on the list. (Daredevil #278-282)

 5. After the Grandmaster decides to keep the Earth as a prize, Daredevil
challenges him to a simple contest: the flip of a coin. While this may
be the easiest battle DD ever won, the Grandmaster is one of the more
powerful beings he's ever faced. (Giant-Size Defenders #3)

 4. Even though Cobra and Hyde have been known to take on much "tougher"
heroes than Daredevil, he has foiled the plans of these two many
times. The first time he'd met them, he was blinded by them and still
defeated them! As a team, they've tangled with Daredevil on four
separate occasions, twice with the Jester helping, and once with the
Gladiator as well. DD also took on Hyde solo later on in the title.
Most recently, he stifled Hyde before Hyde could do much. I'm sure
    they'll meet again. (Daredevil #31-32, #61, #142-143, #153-154, #235,
    #353-357)

 3. In what was, unfortunately, his only story, Steve Englehart had DD
defeat Klaw by using the power of sound against Klaw. Using both his
smarts and his supersenses, DD once again got to show that he's not
just an acrobatic fighter (although there were impressive bits of both
acrobatics and fighting as well)! (Daredevil #237)

 2. Probably the single toughest one on one battle DD ever had has been
versus the Absorbing Man. Contrary to Rick Jones' comment in the Hulk,
Daredevil won this knock down, drag out brawl through sheer skill and
determination, NOT just because Crusher Creel had a cold that day!! ;)
    (Daredevil #359-360)

And THE number one foe that DD has taken on and beaten, not once, but twice:
 1. The last time DD bumped into Dr. Doom was indirectly in that Doom was
the one who restored Ultron. Early in his career, however, DD bumped
into this cosmic level bad guy, not once, but twice. The first time he
held his own against Doom physically until a powerless Fantastic Four
could regain their powers and then help DD. The second time, DD won
without a single blow by completely outsmarting Doom (something usually
reserved for geniuses like Reed Richards). While one of Daredevil's
most outstanding features may be his incredible fighting skills and
acrobatics, his mind has proven equally agile on many occasions.
    (Fantastic Four #39-40, Daredevil #38-40 & FF #73)
